Supt. Condon Update: Schools Will Be Closed on Monday, March 16

Dear District 90 Families, Faculty, and Staff,

As you are aware, the health and wellness of our students, staff, families, and community are of the highest priority.

District 90 is planning to close schools on Monday, March 16, out of an abundance of caution and in response to the social distancing guidance recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). At this time, schools will remain closed through at least the end of Spring Break (March 30).

Schools will be in session on Friday, March 13 for the purpose of issuing iPads to K-4 students, training students about expectations and procedures for continuity of learning, and ensuring that students have the books and necessary materials for us to conduct our e-Learning plan in a robust manner. Students will also be leaving school tomorrow with sufficient independent reading material for the coming week.

Although there have been few incidences of the coronavirus in this area, we are taking this action to ensure that our students, families, and staff are able to implement the necessary recommendations for maintaining their health. The goal of informing parents tonight about the closure beginning on Monday is to provide time for families to make advance plans for the length of the school closure that will be implemented in the coming week. We understand that school closures are very challenging to coordinate and understand the need for proper arrangements to be made for this circumstance.

Additional information about the specific details of the e-Learning plan and recommendations about how families can continue to support their students will be provided in a separate communication on Friday.

We will continue to update you as new information becomes available. Your patience and understanding during this highly unusual time are deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our students, families, and schools. Please stay well.

Respectfully,

Ed Condon, Ph.D.
Superintendent
