Join the D90 Band or Orchestra!

District 90 band and orchestra starts in 4th grade and offers weekly pull-out small group lessons during the school day and large ensemble rehearsals before school. Middle school students receive a grade for their participation in the program. There are multiple performance opportunities for our students throughout the year, including evening concerts, Solo and Ensemble Festival, the ILMEA Festival, clinics, workshops, and more!

Experienced player? If you are new to D90 and already play an instrument, contact Mr. Hufnus for band ([email protected]) or Mrs. Minish for orchestra ([email protected]).

Looking to start an instrument? Beginning band and orchestra registration for 4th-8th grade students with little or no experience starts in the fall with the following process:

  • 4th-8th grade families receive email communications about joining band and orchestra at the start of each school year.
  • School assembly for 4th graders introducing the instruments in band and orchestra.
  • 4th grade instrument tryouts at each elementary school during the day.
  • Evening meeting for parents and students at Roosevelt.
  • Private 5-10 minute instrument conferences with parent, student, and the directors at Roosevelt. Instrument rentals are completed at this event or with the music store directly.

Not sure which instrument you would like to play? Watch these demonstration videos to learn more about the instruments offered in beginning band and orchestra.
