D90 Parents, Faculty, and Students Invited to Participate in 5Essentials Survey

D90 Parents, Faculty, and Students Invited to Participate in 5Essentials Survey

District 90 is participating in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey, which is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of our schools. Teachers, parents, and students across the state will participate in this online and confidential survey with the results reported on each school's Illinois School Report Card. In District 90, the survey will be administered during times selected by each school's Principal and will ask students and teachers about their experiences and views regarding school.

Prior research has shown that schools strong on three or more of the 5Essentials were 10 times more likely to experience student learning gains than schools weak on three or more of the Essentials. Those Essentials are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environment
  • Ambitious Instruction

In District 90, students in grades 4-8 will participate in the 5Essentials Survey during school hours. Teachers will be able to participate in the survey at meeting times established by the Principal or on their own time. Student and teacher identities will be kept completely confidential, and responses will not be linked to individual students or teachers. Faculty members or administrators will never see individual responses and will only receive aggregated information.

School-level 5Essentials Reports will be generated from survey responses when at least 50 percent of teachers and students respond to the survey. A supplemental report will be generated if at least 20 percent of D90 parents/guardians participate. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in May 2021, with results for students and teachers included in each State School Report Card that will be released in the fall of 2021.

Please be aware that under the Protection Pupil Rights Act. 20 USC. Section 1232 (c) (1) (A), parents and guardians have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of their student(s). Student survey questions can be viewed by clicking this link:
