The current remote learning “adaptive pause” extension in District 90 is scheduled to continue through Friday, December 11. Because of increased stability in key health metrics over the last three weeks, along with other important factors that are essential for the District to conduct operations safely, the District will re-open on Monday, December 14, for blended in-person instruction.
At that time, all students in grades PreK-4 will return to blended instruction. Roosevelt Middle School students will be phased in starting December 14 so that each student will attend school in person at least twice before Winter Break begins on December 24.
All students will return to Remote Learning after Winter Break from January 11-15. This schedule is intended to minimize the risks of post-holiday COVID transmission. It is expected that blended in-person instruction will resume on Tuesday, January 19 (after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), assuming stable health metrics. This schedule will be confirmed in early January.
After the prolonged period of remote instruction, it is requested that all our students and families practice patience as we return to in-person instruction. Families can help students understand that returning to in-person instruction will not mean returning to the same school environment that they may remember in “normal” times. This adjustment just requires new ways of thinking, acting, and learning together. Please be assured that District faculty, staff, and administrators will also be working hard to reassure them and help them adjust.
There will be several notable changes to the school day designed to maintain the safety of students and staff members. Among many others, these changes include:
- Mandatory wearing of masks at all times
- Reinforced handwashing regimens
- Maintaining social distance from other students
- Refraining from sharing classroom items or bringing personal items from home
- Stringent cleaning and disinfecting routines by maintenance staff to minimize transmission risks
The District recognizes that even with the COVID-19 transmission rates trending in the desired direction, some families’ circumstances may prompt the need or desire for students to remain in full remote instruction. To support families desiring full remote instruction, the District has re-opened enrollment in the Full Remote Learning Option. An overview of the Full Remote Learning Option can be downloaded by clicking this link: Full Remote Instruction Option Packet. Also attached is the Full Remote Learning Opt-In Form, which can be accessed by clicking this link: Full-Time Remote Learning Opt-in Form. Please note that students who are already enrolled in full remote instruction do not need to re-enroll.
For families requiring child supervision supports, D90 and the West Cook YMCA (WCY) will continue to offer the blended learning supervision program to support students and families in grades 1-6. The program format will be adapted to these new circumstances for students already enrolled in the program. Additional information will be forthcoming.
