As part of Illinois Township Day, Oak Park and River Forest Townships will host a free Open House on Friday, September 21, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at 105 S. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park. To commemorate the 101st anniversary of the River Forest Township and the 115th anniversary of the Oak Park Township, both groups will be giving away free oak tree saplings. The River Forest Township will give away 101 oak saplings to the first 101 guests, while the Oak Park Township will give away 115 saplings to its first 115 guests. The free oak tree saplings are from a generous donation from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
Townships across Illinois officially celebrate Township Day each year on September 21 to invite residents to learn about the many vital services that Townships provide and raise awareness about their impact on communities.
During the September 21 Open House, tours of the two Oak Park Township facilities will be available, and staff members and elected officials from both River Forest and Oak Park Townships will be on hand from departments that include Assessor Services, Senior Services, Youth Services, Mental Health Services, and General Assistance.
