Young Authors' Conference Winners Highlight Young Wordsmiths

Congratulations go to the three winning authors and to the 65 students who submitted poems or stories to the Young Authors' Conference. The event featured award-winning children’s author Alice B. McGinty who held a writing workshop for participants and offered encouragement to all of the young authors in attendance. The winners of this year’s Young Authors Conference are Isabelle Lefko, a third-grade student at Lincoln; Maeve Ellen Houlihan, a third-grade student at Willard; and Alex Lefko, a sixth-grade student at Roosevelt. The Lefko students are the Conference's first siblings to submit winning pieces. Because writers need readers, be sure to check out the short stories from this year’s Young Authors' Conference winners: Recipe Rescue by Isabelle Lefko; Arithmetic and Other Poems for Kids by Maeve Ellen Houlihan, and The Space Between Us by Alex Lefko.  District 90’s three winning students, along with the students who submitted entries, will have the opportunity to attend the 44th Statewide Young Authors Conference that will be held on Saturday, May 19 at Normal Community West High School.
