Denise Matthews Selected as Director of Special Education

Denise Matthews has been selected as District 90’s new Director of Special Education during the February 19 Board meeting. She will begin work on July 1, 2018.

 

Currently, she serves as the Assistant Director of Specialized Student Services for Compliance for District U-46. Denise has also served as the Assistant Principal at both the Westmont High School in Westmont, IL, and Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School in Oak Park. She also has been nominated for the Golden Apple Award and twice received the Special Education Teacher of the Year Award by the Supported Education Association of Oak Park-River Forest.

 

Her extensive experiences with student services, school administration, along with a commitment to professional growth for faculty and facilitating a collaborative work environment made her stand out among other candidates. Ms. Matthews holds two masters’ degrees from DePaul University in Chicago. One of her masters’ degree is in Educational Leadership and Administration and the other is in Language, Literacy, and Specialized Instruction. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Belize in Belize City, Belize.

 

District 90 will host an Open House to welcome Denise to the River Forest community. Details about the event will be forthcoming.
