D90 Board of Education President Pat Meyer Resigns; Process to Fill Vacancy Begins Immediately

Board of Education President Pat Meyer has announced his resignation effective June 2, 2016. He is stepping down from this post because Pat and his family will be relocating to Colorado in early July. Board leadership will be assumed by Ralph Martire, current Board Vice President, until the Board reorganizes their formal leadership positions at the upcoming Board of Education Meeting on June 20, 2016.

Mr. Meyer was first elected to the Board of Education in 2009 and re-elected in 2013 when he began his role as the Board President. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Meyer led the District’s efforts to address competing perspectives on the Roosevelt Exterior Project and encouraged the District’s efforts to address educational equity and inclusivity matters. He also has been a strong advocate for balancing the instructional requirements of the Common Core State Standards with the demands of standardized testing.

With Pat Meyer’s resignation, the process to fill the Board of Education vacancy begins immediately. According to the Illinois School Code and the District’s policies, the remaining Board members have 45 days to accept and review applications, interview applicants, and select a qualified individual to fill the vacancy. Individuals who are interested in serving on District 90’s Board of Education can submit an application at the District’s Administrative Offices, 7776 Lake Street, River Forest. The deadline to file an application is 3 p.m. on June 15, 2016. A special Board of Education meeting will be held in July to select the new member of the Board of Education.

Additional information on the Notice of Vacancy and application instructions can be found on the District 90 website.
