River Forest Village officials voted on February 23 to accept the recommendations of the Development Review Board (DRB) regarding the Roosevelt Exterior Project. On February 19, members of the DRB voted to approve the District’s application for the Roosevelt Project, but with three conditions. The District agreed to concede to all of the conditions except one, which stated that the plan for the Roosevelt North Lot must include 30 parking spaces, instead of the proposed 20 parking spaces accompanying the construction of a formal student gathering area.
This represents an unexpected development in the District’s journey to address the facility challenges and student and visitor safety issues present on the school site. As such, the District 90 Board of Education and administration are currently working to discern the short- and long-term implications of the Village’s decision. In the coming days and weeks, the District will be discussing and considering options as to the most appropriate way to move forward.
Please be reassured that District 90 will endeavor to provide information in as timely a manner as possible on the way in which the Roosevelt Exterior Project will proceed. Regardless of individuals’ opinions about the merits or drawbacks of the proposed project, it has been tremendously encouraging to see the high value that our overall school community places on the importance of providing for safe and appropriate school facilities.
