District 90 schools will be open on Monday, February 2, 2015, with a two-hour delay. Students should report to school two hours after their regular start time. Staff members are asked to use the additional time in order to allow for safe travel to school during the morning commute. Please note that supervision will be provided for students in the case of those unavoidable circumstances when families must bring them at the regular start time.
The decision to remain open was made after serious deliberation and an appreciation of the challenges that closing schools poses for families. We have been monitoring the weather and road conditions closely overnight. The cleared condition of Village streets, along with the fact that the vast majority of our students do not rely on school bus transportation, contributed significantly to the decision to remain open. Unfortunately, the snow continued longer than anticipated overnight which necessitates the late start.
We believe that this represents a safe decision for both students and staff, which we take very seriously. However, we trust families to know what is best for their children. If you have concerns about sending your child to school because of inclement weather, please be assured that his or her absence will be considered excused and teachers will take the circumstances into full account.
