The Illinois Department of Public Health is monitoring the possible outbreak of a severe respiratory illness that has been reported by hospitals in Illinois and Missouri. Children are especially vulnerable. Testing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified some cases as an enterovirus, EV-D68, according to the IDPH. This particular enterovirus is not very common and presents symptoms similar to a common cold, including fever, running nose, sneezing, coughing, body aches.
